Welcome to my blog of my progress in the Parelli Program!

This is a blog of my journey with my wonderful, amazing, smart, unconfident and then pretends to be--and is-- defaint, Quarter Horse mare, Brizzee, in the Parelli Program! We are official Level 1 Graduates as of spring, of 2009! We are currently playing with On-Line and Freestyle at Levels 2 & 3. I am also beginning to "play" with a friends horse. Sugar is a RBI 5 year old bay Quarter Horse. She is really "calm" and "quiet" and isn't very confident, but she's sensitive and very willing. I thank you for coming with me along my journey of playing with two wonderful horses! :)

Midnight Ride...

Wow, it's been a while since I posted what Brizzee and I have been doing lately :-) Actually, we haven't been playing nearly as much as I'd like to, but hopefully this week I can organize my schedule with school a little better and then we'll have lots of time to play =-)

Originally, I had been hoping that Thursdays would be a Freestyle day for Brizzee and I. Whenever we play we always do a little bit on the ground and then I get on her bareback just for the fun of it, but we don't really do any of the DIrect, or Indirect Rein or things liks that, so I was hoping that since THursdays aren't a very busy day, we can play with Freestyle then.

Yesterday (again) I was bummed because I was sure that I wouldn't have time to ride her again because I had school and everything else. Well, my mom surprised me! We went to a Team Sorting Practice. Brizzee did really good. At first she was being defaint, fighting against me with the Natural Hackamore, so my mom insisted that I try the Tumb Thumb bit (since she had the bozale or however you spell it). I really didn't want to use a bit, but my mom showed me how to put it on Brizzee.

WOW! The change was very evident. I was as light as I could be on the reins and I used the Direct Rein and she did really good. At first she was confused between bending and the Indirect Rein, but I probably wasn't doing it right in my body. But she didn't argue that much wanting to Ute. She tried every now and then, but she was a lot better. I only sorted twice, and both times Brizzee did really good. When she made a mistake (mainly I was the one making mistakes. She'd go after the cow and then I'd try to bend her...poor girl. lol), I always petted her and said "sorry" for my stupid mistakes.

After the stirrups really started to hurt the side of my foot I got off, put the halter on, and we played on the ground a little bit. I backed her up by her tail!! YEA!!! I had the very end of the 12 foot line in my hand and I put my hand under her tail, and as I backed up I slowly wiggled the rope. She backed up so nicely!!

She loaded and unloaded really nice. After we got back home in the pitch dark and I unsaddled her, my mom gave me a leg up and I rode her around in the dark. Even in the dark; however, Brizzee still knew where that darn grass is. lol. But it was very fun. Her head was down, she was really stretching when she walked, very relaxed. Even more so after she got the GRASS! LOL.

Until next time,
