Welcome to my blog of my progress in the Parelli Program!

This is a blog of my journey with my wonderful, amazing, smart, unconfident and then pretends to be--and is-- defaint, Quarter Horse mare, Brizzee, in the Parelli Program! We are official Level 1 Graduates as of spring, of 2009! We are currently playing with On-Line and Freestyle at Levels 2 & 3. I am also beginning to "play" with a friends horse. Sugar is a RBI 5 year old bay Quarter Horse. She is really "calm" and "quiet" and isn't very confident, but she's sensitive and very willing. I thank you for coming with me along my journey of playing with two wonderful horses! :)

Half Pint

Oh boy! It's been a long time since I've been on here. We've been very, very busy lately. First we had to sell our bulls, then get hay, writing, 4-wheeling, playing with the horses. Ugh, it's just been very, very busy here. Oh yeah, and did I mention buying a new horse?!

We bought a little pony a few days ago. I think she's about 11.3 hands, I think that's what she measured. She weighs 500 and some pounds, poor thing. She is just skin and bones. Her owners had to sell her as they coudln't afford hay for her anymore, so my mom bought her, for the grandkids, maybe. She's five years old, green broke. She seems very sweet though. She just needs a little TLC. She needs to gain weight, and her hooves need to get fixed. We have to take her to the vet soon to get her teeth floated as well. But she is such a sweet girl. She doesn't seem to afraid of things, she seems curious, and confident. I think she's a LBE, but haven't done a chart on her yet, just guessing. For now we are calling her Half Pint, but that may change. Here are some pics of her:

I love her small little head.

She is so skinny, poor girl. i can count every rib.... :(

So far we are just taking her out to eat grass, taking her for a few walks, but we're still letting her settle in. We have been able to put fly spray on her. She doesn't really like it too well, but she tolerates it. She's such a sweet girl. Probably when she gets a little more weight on her I'll start playing with her a little more, playing the Seven Games and stuff. So I'm very excited about that!! I can't get too attached though because if she doesn't work out for the grandkids we'll probably have to take her to the sell :-( But I think she'll be really good with the kids. They cam out a few days ago and lead her around. She followed them willingly, was very careful. And when they walked away from her she just stared after them. It was cute. I think she'll be really good for them.
I took Brizzee to the Team Sorting last week. That was really cool. She was calm while I groomed her and saddled her, she wasn't whinnying and going around all nervous (she always does when we go to take them somewhere). I was just getting ready to load her into the stock trailer when mom says. "We aren't taking Ute." I think my mouth hit the ground. I was nervous, especially since we weren't tkaing him. I figured Brizzee would go crazy there without him, as when we take him before with Brizzee she has to be right next to him.
But after a few tries she loaded up just fne, didn't go crazy in the trailer. We got to the arena, and unloaded. I was immediately thinking; "Okay, she's going to burst out of this trailer, run around, whinny, go crazy". But guess what? I've never seen her so CALM before!!
I played the circling game for a while, did the Pre Flight checcks. She was calm, willing. She kept looking around at things, but she wasn't going anywhere. I rode her inside for the first time, she remained calm. She was just...different that night. It was liek I was riding a different horse. She plodded along, trotted when I asked. In with the cows she did pretty good.
Then a foal came in. It was so funny, Brizzee watched the foal all night. Her ears were forward, watching it intently, and she kept nickering at it. It was so cute. When we were walking away from it she would turn her head clear around, watching it very closely. It was so cute! We even did a little bit of a sidepass and things.
After a while I unsaddled her. I was having trouble standing on the fence, so I did something totally different. I asked her to lower her head, like Linda did on one Savvy Club dvd. And once again, I tried to get on from her neck. She looked at me as if saying; "Well come on." I jumped over her neck, locking my elbows. She put her head up, and then I just froze like; "What now?" She put her head a little further back, I slide onto her back and swung my leg over. I was so happy!!
And then I rode her around bareback, that was really good. She wasn't laying her ears back at the other horses at all, she was calm, it was amazing. I even knelt on her, and rode in with the cows. It was awesome, awesome, awesome. I felt so excites, happy, warm! I felt like we were actually getting somewhere, and I was just really happy with her.
Then the grandkids came out a few days ago to ride. I think she wasn't feeling well that day because she was really calm witht he kids, and when my brother rode her all she would do was trot, really fast. Now there is a part of her hoof right next to the frog that is longer then her outside wall...OUCH! We are calling a farrier to come out and trim, but he hasn't called us back yet. And I'm not wearing my cowboy boots now because there is a pecie of leather on the heal that came loose and is causing me blisters cause it rolls up, so now I have to wait to do anything more with the horses till that gets fixed...ugh. And I have to babysit, and a lot of other stuff. Busy, busy, busy!!
Maybe sometime things will calm down, I hope. lol.
Savvy On,
